Mechanically agitated filter for filtration under pressure or vacuum operation. A low speed agitator assists the filtration performance under safe work conditions. The simple design of the agitator blade allows an efficient reslurrying of cake or dry solids. A homogeneous cake and a compact cake surface required in the penetration wash cycle is easily achieved by mechanical smoothing the cake surface. At completion of the filtration cycle the agitator blades is positioned above the cake and then rotated counter-clockwise. Under the influence of the blunt edge the filter cake is mechanically compressed, the residual liquid is squeezed out and the cake surface smoothened to avoid crack formation and possible blow-through.
